Greenhouse Frame ChoicesThe structure that holds the
glazing in place
Wood:
Wood is moderately priced, but deteriorates over time, especially at the point of contact with the ground.
It requires some maintenance and it blocks part of the light.
As a woodworking hobbyist, it saddens me to say that wood won't cut it for the IDEAL greenhouse frame.
Steel:
This is solid, long-lasting and heavy.
It is quite workable, albeit a bit heavy for my taste. Steel is best for big (i.e. commercial sized)
structures.
Because of its weight, I would have to say steel isn't the best choice for normal sized greenhouses.
Aluminum:
This is an excellent choice -- light weight, long lasting, easy to work with.
It has a narrow cross section to let in the maximum amount of light for best plant growth.
I’ll take it.
